I am poem

I am friendly and funny
I wonder what forever feels like
I hear magical sounds
I see cars flying
I want unlimited cheesecake and pizza
I am friendly and funny

I pretend to be a famous super model
I feel loved
I touch i touch fuzzy birds
I worry about what happens to dead people
I cry when i’m mad
I am friendly and funny

I understand not everybody is gonna like me
I say hard work pays off
I dream of having a perfect life
I try to do well in the things i like
I hope one day a cure for AIDS is found
I am friendly and funny

List Poem

I’ve got to

wake up in the morning to

start the long day ahead of me,

get in the shower to  get

myself all clean:)

get dressed in my school uniform

grab a bit to eat

as I hurriedly walk

out the door

catch a train

and then a bus so

that i can get to school on time

I’ve gotta swipe my I.D

so that I won’t be marked absent

do my work to earn credits

study for tests so

that I can be promoted

to the next grade level

lastly, go back home to finish up the last of my long day

Acrostic <3 Poem

Voyage that love birds choose to encounter together

Allowing your heart to love

Loving every minute you spend with your special someone

Expressing emotions to one another

Nothing more than to be with each other

Treasure of my life

In love for the rest of your lives

Never ending compassion

Elated in the company of your secret admirer

Julio and Romiette

Sharon M. Draper

The authors purpose of writing this book was to entertain teens with a modern day version of William Shakespeare’s famous “Romeo and Juliet”.

I think that the intended audience for this book is young teens.

8.

If this book had gone one more chapter, Julio and Romiette would be out of the hospital and back into school. Their parents would be hanging out together and julio and Romeo would probably grow up and get married.

Lap5: ” The Lady or the Tiger” questions:

Answer the following from question the text?

Where did the king sit in the arena?

He was sitting in the center of the Arena right next to his beautiful daughter.

Did the tiger come out of the same door every trial?

No, he came out different doors every time there was a different trial.

Did the princess like the lady who had been chosen to her lover’s trial? Give reasons.

No, the princess did not like the women that lay behind the doors. In fact, she hated her because she thought that the women fancied her lover.

How did the princess indicate to her lover the door of her choice ?

The way in which the princess indicated the door in which she wanted her lover to open is by making a slight gesture with her right arm.

What had the princess seen in her dreams?

I don’t know.

Did the princess expect her lover to ask her to indicate which door he should choose?

yes, and she was right.

Do you think women ever committed  crimes in the kingdom? If they did, how do you think they were tried?

I do think that women committed crimes in the kingdom, and as a punishment they would be forced away from whatever family that they had to be put behind one of the doors that will be opened so hen they would have to marry  someone he didn’t want to.

in you own words:

write a description of the king’s arena

the king’s arena was a place of justice in the king’s eyes. it had two doors that contained something in them that could change one’s life forever, wether they liked t or not. The arena was large and empty besides the seats that surrounded the arena itself.

describe the king’s method of administrating justice.

The way the king administrated justice to people is quite simple… he allowed them to choose their own fate.  He sets the person in an arena with two different doors, in one door there is a vicious tiger waiting to feast on someone’s blood. In the other door, there’s a woman waiting to be married. The kings lets the person choose the door he wishes, and whatever happens, is fair.

why did the princess have difficulty which door to indicate her lover?

The reason why the princess had difficulties indicating which door to pick for her lover  is because she didn’t want to see her lover die right in front of her very eyes, however she also didn’t want to see the love of her life be married off to someone she hated from the bottom of her heart.

If you were the princess which option would you have indicated and why?

If I were the princess, I would’ve pointed to the door that had the women in it because although i hated the women the last thing I would want is for my lover’s life to be on my hands.

Write an ending to the story. It may or may not involve opening a door.

The end of my story would be that the princess kills her father and she lives her life with the love of her life happily.

Do you agree with the author that the king’s method of administrating justice was fair?

NO WAY!

Reading Guide Questions: Section 1 & 2

1. How does Elie describe himself?

Well, before the holocaust started Elie described himself as a religious Jew, who was very dependent and close to his family. He was a very determined and intelligent person. During the holocaust, Elie described himself no longer as a believing Jew. He was weak and wouldn’t have survived of he didn’t have his father there with him.

2. Who is Moshe the Beadle?

Moshe the beadle is described as a poor man who worked at a Hasidic synagogue.  He was very timid and people thought that he was awkward.

3. How did the town respond to Moshe and his stories?

The town thought that all the stories that Moshe the beadle told were all lies, particularly the stories about the holocaust. Some people even felt sympathetic for him because they thought that he had went mad. Nobody believed what he said.

4. Why do you think that Elie begins NIGHT with the story of Moshe the Beadle?

I think that Elie started his story with the story of Moshe the Beadle  because Moshe plays a big role in this story by him being the one person who knew what was going to happen to the Jews. He tried to warn everyone of what was going to happen but they didn’t listen. Less people would have been killed if someone would have believed Moshe the Beadle.

5. Explain how the German soldiers slowly took over Sighet.

German soldiers slowly took over Sighet by taking little steps at a time. They began giving curfews to the Jews and putting a limit on how much money they were allowed to keep in their houses. Later on, Germans evacuated all the Jews out of their homes to move them into Jewish ghettos, where conditions were overcrowded and food was low, and they also forced Jews to wear a star on their clothing for identification purposes. From here, things began to get worst and Germans began to move the Jews out of the ghetto, into concentration camps. Then, they took over Sighet.

6. How was Elie’s family separated?

The way that Elie’s family was seperated was by the seperation of men from women at the concentraion camp they were sent to. Nobody knows if the women were put to work or put to death, but Elie never did see them again.

7. Why do you think the Germans take away the inmates’ personal belongings? Their clothing? Why do you think they cut their hair? Tattoo a number on each person’s arm?

Firstly, I think that the Germans took away the inmates’ personal belongings because some of the things that the Jews had might have been worth money. I think the Germans took the clothes away from the Jews just to humiliate the Jews more and to make them suffer. I think they cut their hair to prevent lice infestation thru out the concentration camps. Germans tattooed numbers on each persons for identification purposes.

8. Elie, in recounting the first night in the concentration camp, says, ” Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp, which has turned my life into one long night…” What does it mean for a life to be turned into ” one long night”?

I think when Elie says that his life now feels like one long night he means that this period of trouble in his life is dark and weary, it feels like its going on forever. There is no more good days in his life so therefore there are no more days. Just this ” one long night”.

9.  Please write a personal reaction to the novel so far.

So far as I am reading this book I feel sympathetic for Elie for everything he is being put thru, especially at the young age that he is at. I think that this boy is weak by himself, but he is trying to stay strong for his father’s sake. I see as the story goes on Elie starts to look at his father more as a burden but at the same time he feels that he needs his father to survive. Reading this book flares up a lot of different feelings and emotions within me.
